What a Night!
by Deb Preece.

I have been on-line dating for years and my experiences have been everything from instant infatuation to the most horrendous escape out a bathroom window you could possibly have imagined. The one date that comes to my mind was a dance I was meeting a gentleman at whom I had spoken with on line. We had a most wonderful time and after we escaped up into the canyons of Utah for a view of a waterfall and a couple of “smooches”. He took me back to my car (which by the way had just had its breaks done the day before the 50 mile travel to meet my new “beau”).
Driving home, dressed in black hose, red (sexy to say the least) dress and 2 inch heels, I was approaching a light, when all of a sudden the left front tire of my car falls of, sparks are flying everywhere, my car axel is dragging on the ground going 40 miles per hour, and my tire proceeds to roll across the center of the street, across the opposite traffic and down an embankment. I slam on my breaks and for a moment really wondered what had just happened. As I got my wits about me, I opened my door and saw that my tire had actually fallen off my car. Of course, with my deep knowledge of tire and car repair (if it can’t be fixed with a band aid and a pair of high heels, I’m in trouble). I just stood in the middle of University Avenue at 1:30 AM in the morning and started to cry.
To my luck, a car slowed down (after several had passed) and stopped to the side of my car. An older gentleman got out around the age of 65 or so, and looked at my car. His first comments were “Well there young lady, it looks like you have lost a tire!!” DUH, I figured that out already. Not knowing what to do, I was lucky enough to have a younger couple (who had left their church work until hours before Sunday morning and were at a local copy shop, making coloring pages for their class) had also stopped. We all four stood around my car, now wondering what to do. The younger man, walked to the closest open store and called 911, who informed him that there had been a huge upset up one of the canyons and none of the officers were available for something that didn’t include blood or money.
As we all four stood there wondering what to do, we heard a commotion across the street and down the embankment. All of a sudden we found my tire being rolled up the hill. Behind it were two scruffy looking young men. They rolled the tire across the double lined traffic, across the center of the road and up to my car. With a glazed look on their eyes, they asked me. “Is this yours?””. I was shocked to see my tire in good shape and sitting right next to me. These two young men, continued to explain the following. “Man, we were down there smoking a little weed when all of a sudden this tire came whizzing by us. Scared us to death.” They handed me the tire, and slowly made their way back across the street and down to their little “smoking party”. Shocked and somewhat amused, the two men with me found 3 lug nuts and proceeded to jack my car up and put the tire on as best they could.
The car started and the tire seemed fine. I still had a long way to go home, so I decided to go to a friend’s house that was more local so I would make it safely somewhere until morning when I could head to the Break Store and have my way with their workers for not putting my tire back on right. The younger couple left and the older gentleman suggested that he follow me to my friends place to make sure I had no further trouble. What a sweet old man to have such concern and be such a gentleman to go out of his way.
He followed me to my girlfriend’s house. As I got out of the car, I turned to him, who had parked behind me and gotten out of his car with it still running. I extended my hand as a thankful gesture in appreciation of his help, when he pulled me close and attempted to kiss and grope me. He told me that he had been praying for someone to come into his life since he was SO lonely and his wife had died several years before. As he saw me on the street side, he knew I was the ANSWER TO HIS PRAYERS. He continued to attempt to “love” me. In total shock and disgust, with one push, unfortunately I knocked the poor man down, ran to my girlfriend’s door and ran inside (fortunately she had not locked her door that evening). This poor old guy didn’t know what had hit him. I watched him through the window attempt to come up the sidewalk, but he finally gave up, threw his hands up in the air and got in his car.
I leaned against her door, slid down to the floor and laughed and cried myself sick. My friend could not believe the entire story. The next day, the Brake Store got a verbal tongue lashing, my car got fixed and I got a trip to Disneyland for me and my kids.
Not bad for one night’s dating from an on-line experience.

What an awful experience!!! It’s good that you didn’t get hurt. lol, I’d personally define this as one of those “character building” experiences.

I’m sorry if I was out of line, but I still don’t think it was very nice of you to knock me down. Maybe we can laugh about it over dinner sometime?

Wow…well, at least the date went well, don’t too hear too many stories where the DATE themselves were the issue in the story. Most online dating stories focus on the person they have met.
Good adventure though. The creepy old man cracked me up

well if you werent attractive you wouldnt get so much help when you’re helpless on the street.
i mean, learn to be self-sufficient if you dont want to use the males around you.
and dont complain if you get creepy courtship moves after having played the helpless girl act.
